Our Family

The Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana

The Solomon Center is, before anything else, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. EDOLA's clergy retreats happen here. Happening, the high school youth weekend, has met here for years. The women's and men's recovery communities return annually. The Conference on Ministry. The Racial Reconciliation Commission. Bishop's functions. The deacons. The altar guild.

For Episcopalians, the Solomon Center is not a venue. It is an extension of diocesan life. The Bishop visits often. Our chapel is consecrated. Our staff knows the prayer book. The silver is polished for the right reasons.

Christian Traditions, Broadly Welcomed

Victory Fellowship has worshiped here. Church of the King retreats here. New Hope Baptist has worshiped here. Catholic parishes from across the New Orleans and Baton Rouge archdioceses gather here regularly. Presbyterian congregations, Lutheran groups, Methodist women's ministries, non-denominational youth gatherings, Pentecostal pastoral retreats — the Solomon Center honors the full breadth of Christian expression.

Beyond the Christian Tradition

Christian groups have been the Solomon Center's primary guests for three decades. The property and our hospitality, however, are equally suited to retreats from any faith tradition.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is consecrated as Christian. For communities whose practice calls for different sacred space, the property offers genuine alternatives: the lakeside pavilion for open-air gatherings, the Lodge with its great room, the prairie, the trails, and 200 acres of pine forest where many groups find their own quiet places of practice.

We would actively welcome inquiries from Jewish congregations, Muslim communities, Buddhist sanghas, interfaith dialogue groups, and other communities seeking a retreat home in South Louisiana. Our Executive Director, the Rev. Robert Beazley, is happy to speak directly with your community's leadership to understand what you need and to discuss whether the Solomon Center is the right fit.

On dietary needs

Tammy's team and Chef Jeff's kitchen have coordinated kosher and halal accommodations for past groups, working with families and partner caterers to honor each community's dietary tradition. We've also handled vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, keto, allergies, nightshade aversions, and any number of other dietary needs as part of normal hospitality. Whatever your community requires, tell us. We will plan around it.
